I just went back through over 900 liked posts and dug out all the art tutorials so i can keep track of them. I guess this might be helpful to some of you guys, so here you go.
Here we go then!
Freeware
Alchemy - this is a really fun program. You play around making abstract shapes until you start to see something in them, kind of like a Rorschach test. Then you use the shapes as a base to draw it from.
MyPaint - a pretty decent painting program that also has the benefit of working on Unix systems.
openCanvas 1.1 - I haven’t used openCanvas in years but it was a nice program with a pretty unique feel to it.
ArtRage - Only used this a couple of times donkey’s years ago just before I got oC, but I’ve heard good things about it.
The GIMP - In a similar vein to Photoshop, but free. I couldn’t get on with it when I tried it out a few years ago, but it’s pretty popular and is available on Unix systems and Macs.Sketchbook copic: a bit different program
Not-free-ware
Photoshop - Standard painting fare. Probably the most flexible program (particularly the latest versions) but not designed to act in a “natural” way. If you’ve used it for painting versus something like Painter you know what I mean. Who the fuck pays for it though? Google “Photoshop tumblr masterpost” and take your pick.
Paint Tool Sai - Far more affordable and definitely worth paying for if you can. The brushes are very decent (especially when they’ve been tweaked a little), the gui is simple and intuitive, and I dare you to find a program with which making smooth lineart is easier.
Corel Painter - My program of choice for most things. More tools than you could ever possibly use and pretty cheap on a student license, providing that you can prove you’re a student! It’s got a few bugs but if you want realism or a more natural feel than PS or SAI this is the program for you.Anatomy

ah, my sketch process is not really interesting but I guess I ‘ll try to explain as best as i could.
start off with rough outline, some time it’s only just a circle……
I usually skip this step if it’s pensketch, to avoid the useless lines.
next I usually start with eyes or eyebrows&nose, to me it helps positioning everything else.
this, now you can see where eyes should go and mouth and ears….. so now you filled it.
i’m still drawing rule 63 kanaya, thanks to you guys…..
but yeah, the little drawing on the right is just what the average face should be,
it doesn’t have to be like this if you want to add a little uniqueness in your character… like huge ears and such.
ok….. so I guess the rest is the hair…..and shading….
I’m not sure how to explain to you since i’m not really expert in drawing hair myself….. I still messed up most of the time but all I know is ….
I don’t know how to explain how you draw hair in detail…..
and in the small pict, what i mean is the volume of the hair, not counting the spikes……
spikes, crazy fluffy curl, afro, those things are exception in this theory.
but if it’s straight, drawing hair thicker might cause the character to have huge head.
/again it’s still up to what you prefer/
I’m not pro with shading either, and I always ended up over do it…..
just ….. remember the light source.
….
sorry this is a sucky steps sketch…..
but i guess this should do?

Sure! First, I definitely recommend checking out the program f.lux mentioned in this post. :D Also try keeping the lights dim or off in your room in the hours before bed unless you need them for something!
Another thing that can help is white noise - even if you’re used to sleeping in silence, various quiet noise can help some people ease up and sleep. My personal favorite for this is a rainstorm sound, but this is another good site for various kinds of quiet static! I just open the page and leave it running while I go to bed.
Another good thing is melatonin - a supplement you can find in pill form in many grocery stores or pharmacies (here’s one example!). It’s affordable, too! Besides just helping you sleep, it can also reduce headaches and depression, among other things :D
I would also avoid caffeine in the second half of the day, as it can stay in your system for quite a while, even when you might feel as though the effects have worn off. Also avoid exercising or physical strain in the couple hours before you try sleeping!
Relaxing, low-key activities like reading might also help you wind down if you’re stressed out, and being more relaxed can also make it much easier to fall asleep and get better rest.
Hope some of this helps you out!
